Great wine, better planet

Drinking wine from glass bottles has a high carbon footprint. It’s time to enjoy wine in a more sustainable way. Organic wine. Low impact packaging.

What’s wrong with wine in a bottle?

Nothing wrong with the wine, as long as it’s great wine 😜.

But a traditional wine bottle is quite heavy and its shape is highly inefficient. This means that transportation causes a lot of CO₂ emissions. The same is true for producing the bottles and melting and re-using the empty ones that you throw into the container so neatly.

Low impact packaging

Our bag in-box (BIB) weighs less, is efficient to transport and we don’t need to heat up the climate any further to produce and re-use the packaging. All in all the carbon footprint of drinking our boxed wine is more than 80% lower than for wine in a bottle.

Organic wines

THE WINE PACK offers wines that have been produced sustainably. Almost all wines are certified organic (green leaf). Some of our winegrowers (all European) work on the basis of a different sustainability system.

Organic production lowers the carbon footprint, because the production of artificial fertilizer requires a lot of energy. No chemical pest control increases biodiversity in the vineyard.

Is the 80% lower carbon footprint the only advantage of THE WINE PACK?

No, luckily there are also more light-legged benefits:

  • We don’t want to argue about taste: that’s why we only select delicious wines from European winegrowers;

  • The pleasure of great wine is better when it lasts longer: our wine stays fresh for up to 6 weeks after opening;

  • Wine in bag-in-box comes at a lower price (10-40%) than the same wine in a bottle;

  • Let’s make life easy: our handy box weighs almost 40% less than the equivalent of glass-bottled wine.

Is there scientific proof for the 80% reduction of the carbon footprint?

Just google “bag in box wine climate” and you will find plenty of evidence.

Who’s behind THE WINE PACK?

THE WINE PACK is an initiative of a father and a son from The Netherlands: Jeen & Auke Akkerman. We both love wine, we both want a better world. Our contribution is to bring winemakers and consumers together, by offering high quality wines in bag in box. We’re open for co-operation with all parties in the “wine chain” that want to take care of our planet:

  • producers

  • traders

  • importers

  • wine stores

  • consumers
